Week 6 At Fort Pierce Three Way Tie For Most Weekly Wins
Week 5 is now in the books for Fort Pierce, the handle was a total disaster dropping just about $6,000 from the previous
week. The sport continues to head in the wrong direction as the public shows very little interest.
I've said it before and I'll say it again,jai-alai is a pari-mutuel sport in the United States and without some type of gimmick
wagering offering a substantial jackpot the bettors just won't come. There is no getting away from it,without some type of
promotions to draw the fans in,you just won't make it.Jcpenney's decided to stop SALES Discounting and are losing millions, that's
just one example.
The play continues to be good and Egi was held to just 5 wins, his lowest of the season, however he remains in first place in
the overall wins department with 49 victories,#21 Olharan from France is in second place with 35.
SIERRA: who was held to just one win in week four came back strong with 7 wins to tie with #19 Olabe & #28 Leo for the weekly
most wins."Congrats" to all three of them.
LARRU: High Cesta to him as the veteran will turn 45 this July but still sports a .143 win percentage. As I recall he started
his career at Ocala and has been first class his entire career. No holding here,he's strictly old time jai-alai.
The 1-2 & 2-3 are the leading Quiniela but the 1-2-3 Trifecta has yet to come in..

Foronda Edges Out Egi & Fernandez Fort Pierce Week Five
It was a tight race for the most wins last week but when all was said and done it
was Foronda with 8 wins who edged out Egi who had 7 along with Fernandez. Many will remember Foronda for his Dania days where
he made quite a name for himself. He started there in 2003 and in 2004 "Bingo" he won the Overall Wins Championship with 164
victories. Also in the same year he won the Campeonato with 1,571 points, which in compiled using 5 points for a win,3 points
for a place and 1 point for a show.Leo who is also now on the Fort Pierce roster finished second to Foronda in both the Most
Wins and the Campeonato. To prove it was no fluke Foronda came back in 2005/06 to win another Overall Wins Championship, but
this time he had a whopping 195 victories.
Foronda hails from Vitoria,Spain and will turn 34 on March 20th,2013.Many think he will finish second to Egi this year at
the Fort but as of this writing he trails the very promising newcomer #21 Olharan 30 wins to 24
Egi who has led the roster in wins from day one is 14 games in front of Olharan and has an excellent chance at winning a
"Triple Crown".In recent years the last players to win the Triple Crown at the Fort are Borja and Zinkunegi ..
Finishing third last week were Cancio, larru and former backcourt Champion Fernandez, who each had 6 wins.
This was a very nice week for Cancio who has broken out of a slump.I can't help but remember the week Cancio won 5 straight
games at Dania (2004) ,no easy feat that's for sure.At the time the record was 6 straight held by Juaristi, and Zen.I believe
since then the record has been broken and is now 7 straight held by Larrea

The Fort's Roster is Balanced,Except for Egi
Although it's still early in the season with just nine performances being played,Egi is riding
high and increasing his wins lead with every performance. So far he has been in the money in .638% of his starts with a huge
.404 win percentage. He appears to be the class of this roster with his numerous Championships and Titles both in the Unites
States and Europe.A couple of years ago Egi was voted the number two Frontcourter in the world behind Goikoetxea by the fans
and number four by the players.
I'll go out on the limb and say that the play is just as good as I saw Citrus Night, and Egi is the driving force behind the
play,he sets the tempo, the players must up their game making every shot count.Egi will except nothing less then a win and
will fight the opposing player going all out which makes it very difficult to beat him.
From 1996 until the winter of 2008,Egi
played full time at Dania Jai-Alai,where he won several titles including the 2002 Cesta World Cup teamed with Elizegui. From
what I have heard at the time of his leaving Dania he was the highest paid player on the roster. That seemed only fitting as
many and I think he was the best on it,with Arriaga not to far behind.
When I think of Egi as a player the thoughts that
come to my mind is how aggressive a player he is,the great confidence he shows and what a pleasure it is to watch him play.He
plays his game on whatever court he is on,from the fast Orlando to the slow Fort Pierce,he adjusts quickly, and needless to
say has a golden glove.
One of Egi's hobbies is the Internet and he is the former owner of the website Jai alive which was
located in Spain..He has been playing jai-alai since he was 9 and according to him the strongest part of his game is his Rebote, with
the weakest his Dejada. It's a good bet that Egi will be a "Triple Crown Winner" by the time the Fort Pierce Season ends on
March 30th,2013.
The Fort is open for Live Jai-Alai on Fri,Sat and Sunday.Simulcasting and Poker are available 7 days a
week. Fort Website
For the players that came from Europe to play this season, I think they won't get rich but to spend two months in Florida
during the winter months doing something they love is really great. The schedule of 5 short performances in three days leaves
plenty of time for sightseeing and having fun. It's great that they came over and I hope they enjoy themselves.I spent 18 months
in Europe mostly in Germany but did get to visit France during my service years.I have never been to Spain but would love
to visit there one day for the "Summer Partido's".

Tom Contreras Tom had this to say about Egi
in the Northern Star Magazine after the 2012 Fort Pierce season where Egi won the "Triple Crown"
"Egi is considered to be
one of the top frontcourters playing today and his numbers certainly proved that.He played in 253 games and won 74 times, boasting
a roster high .292 win percentage. He also finished in the money nearly 6 out of every ten games he played, boasting an impressive
ITM of .589" !
Fort Pierce Jai-Alai started their 39th. season on Friday Feb. 1st at 7:00 pm.As predicted the approximate 450 fans were treated to some excellent Jai-Alai,this is a well balanced roster and
if your in the area check it out,you will not be disapppointed. Egi seems to have picked up right where he left off last season.I
feel he will definitely add some more titles to his already impressive resume.
At 6:00 the players were in the lobby for a meet and greet, the Budweiser Girls handed out FREE T-Shirts and the crowd was
growing as 6:30 was nearing and the players had to leave for their warm up practice.I took some photos and some video which
will be on JaiAlaiUSA.Net after processing. My out-dated camera uses tape so it takes time to reproduce.
I really hope the fans give the support this roster deserves and of course Stu Neiman who put it together. The switching back
and forth from a singles game to a doubles is really working well. The 7th game with 7 straight singles is great,I really like
it,and the betting public usually gets an additional chance when their team commit an error.
One would think the payoffs would really be hurting but that is not the case, one Quiniela with Egi winning came back $168.00.Hopefully
Management will have a few promotions to help the draw,a fan appreciation night would be great. With the economy still lagging
behind,it will take some extra effort to get the word out.
Two of the players that came here from France Olharan 22 and Yeche 23 have youth on their side, and appear to be ready and
able for battle,so Egi will have to work somewhat harder for his wins, but will get them.In the meantime this will be great
experience for these younger energetic aggressive players.
This message is from the Fort Pierce Management.......YOUR Satisfaction is Our Concern ! The players, staff and management
of this fronton work hard to insure that your visit with us is as enjoyable as possible. If there is anything that we can do
to improve your experience at Fort Pierce Jai-Alai please let us know.

Jean Olharan
In 2012 a young frontcourter from France,#21 Olharan
made some fans take a second look at his game.Playing against the very best in the world he and his partner Alliez II scored
6 single points and finished third in the "Citrus Invitational".I was impressed then and even more so now after seeing him
play approximately 30 games. This 23 year old is the real deal,he's as fast as grease lighting, very confident, aggressive, excellent
glove and fun to watch.
This past Sunday he picked up another 3 wins to close the overall wins gap to just 4 games behind
the Champ Egi,who was plagued this weekend with serve problems to some degree.Egi by the way stayed after the performance
to practice his serve after the evening performance. This is what Champions do,they work it out, which takes the extra effort.
Olharan
has come to the Unites States with some Championships under his belt.
Champion De France 2012 Et 2011
Champion Du
Mondue 2010 Vainqueur
De La Coupe Du Monde En 2009
being just 23 has plenty of fire in him which is great for the fans. His popularity will mean lower prices as indicated this
Sunday, the fans are not afraid to bet him but not to the extent they do Egi.That may change as Olharan's in the money percent
as passed Egi but just slightly, also he is leading in Frontcourt Doubles wins.
If you get the chance to get to the Fort
and watch this competitive roster put on a great show, you will enjoy it.I've made the 460 mile round trip twice this meet
so far,and will return again.Hopefully on my next trip I can find out more about the new players from France,so stay tuned. The
video above will give you some idea how aggressive Olharan is as he steals an Egi serve in Europe.

Fort Pierce will commence their 38th season on February 1st,2013.In
2012 the Fort ran their season March 2nd,through April 28th.Having the prime tourist month of Feb will only add to the handle. If
they follow the schedule from last year they will play Friday & Saturday @ 7pm and Matinee's Friday & Saturday @12:00 noon...Matinee
on Sunday @1:00pm.
The roster has been down-sized from 20 to 15 players, but I have to say, this is such a competitive roster
and I expect very good play.Seven of the players from the 2012 roster will be back.(larru,Sierra,Foronda,Olabe,Egi,Fernandez, and
Conrado.
France will be represented by some exceptional players, most know Jean olharan who finished third in the 2012 Citrus
Invitational.I have only seen Treku play on video, but he looks like he will be tough.
Egi from Spain won the overall wins
title last year, and we believe he will repeat.
I plan on visiting the Fort this year and will make my comments known on
this page and Facebook,so stay tuned.last year management sent out the non-betting online video signal and it would be great
if they do the same this year.
